Let's Talk Indoor Air Quality
Posted: Oct 26, 2020

Now more than ever we have been hearing a buzz about indoor air quality (IAQ). This topic may have entered the conversation considering recent events or because of people spending more time at home and the rise of the remote workforce; but IAQ is not a new concept.

Just as it sounds, indoor air quality refers to the quality of air within an enclosed space like your home, workplace, or inside buildings, and how it relates to your health and comfort.

Finding the right system for your comfort and safety is important. Furnaces are typically equipped with a standard 1” filter that is recommended to be replaced annually, at minimum, and cleaned routinely to ensure proper filtration. Beyond a standard filter, you can improve your indoor air quality with an HRV (Heat Recovery ventilator), a humidifier or by upgrading to an air filtration system with a Germicidal UV Purifier.

Two air purification systems our professionals recommend for improved IAQ include Lennox’s PureAir™ system and Trane’s CleanEffects™.

PureAir™ S (Lennox) :

  • Air Particles – Removes 99.9%* of mold spores, pollen, dust, and pet dander. Removes more than 95% of fine particles absorbed by the lungs down to 0.3 micron**
  • Germs and Bacteria – Removes/destroys 90%* of flu and cold viruses, infectious bacteria like MRSA and other living microorganisms down to 0.01 micron**
  • Chemical Odors and Vapours – Destroys household odors and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from sources like cooking fumes, pets, cleaning supplies, paints and solvents, and carpeting upholstery.

*Based on laboratory and field studies.
** One micron equals approximately 1/25,000 of an inch.

CleanEffects™ (Trane):

  • Removes up to an incredible 99.98% of allergens from filtered air
  • Traps particles as small as 0.1 micron in size
  • Up to 100 times more effective than a standard 1” filter
  • Can reduce your need to dust by up to 50%
  • Performance verified by leading experts at the Harvard School of Public Health
